An estimate, about 4 characters a token. Each model counts its own way. The Markdown is the page’s main content as clickd finds it, with links made whole; menus, header, footer and forms are left out, as a reader leaves them out.

What helped and hurt the reading

  • OpenOpen to crawlersIts robots.txt lets clickd’s crawler read this page, so clickd fetched it. An assistant’s crawler obeys the rules for its own name; the AI crawler checker shows each one.Let crawlers in
  • FoundMain textThe page marks its own content with a <main> element, 157 words, so a reader knows where the page starts and stops. No rule
  • In the HTMLText before script runsThe page’s text is in the HTML the server sends, 157 words of its own, so an agent reads it without running script.Put the text in the HTML
  • OneOne main headingThe h1 says “Wildly Comfortable. Super Natural.”.Use one main heading
  • 1 to fixHeadings as an outline59 headings. 1 empty heading.Heading checker
  • No questionThe answer in the first linesNo h2 is a question, so there is no first answer to look for. The first lines above are what an agent reads before anything else.Answer the first question right under it
  • NoneStructured dataNo JSON-LD. Structured data tells a reader in its own terms what the page is: a business, a product, an article.Add structured data
  • Mostly around itThe page against what is around it1% of the 14,651 words before script are the page’s own text. The rest is menus, header, footer and forms that a reader has to cut away, and may not.
    No rule

That was one page of allbirds.com.clickd reads its first 100 pages against one rulebook and ranks every fix by what it is worth. Free, about a minute.

# Roof repair in Austin

We fix leaks and storm damage on shingle and metal
roofs, most within a week.

## What does a roof repair cost?

Most repairs cost $350 to $1,200. A quote is free.

The words are in the HTML the server sends, under headings, so what an assistant keeps is the page itself and not an empty shell.

What does it check?

Rules from the rulebook, and how many of the sites clickd has read miss each.

Questions

Do AI assistants run a page’s script?

Most AI crawlers do not. A page whose words arrive only by script often reaches them nearly empty.

Why turn a page into Markdown?

Assistants and agents work from a page’s text, not its layout. Markdown is close to what they keep once menus, footers and markup are set aside.

Does this show what an assistant will say about my page?

No. It shows what an assistant can read. What it says depends on the question it was asked and what else it read.

The whole site

One page is one part. A read checks every page against the whole rulebook and says what to fix first.
